The Problem

Brands don't age out. They fall out of alignment.

Marketing budgets are flat — 7.8% of company revenue, roughly 18% below where they sat four years ago.1 AI now takes 15.3% of that, and only three in ten organizations say they can actually run what they bought.1

At the same time, awareness and conversion have climbed to 62.6% of media spend. Loyalty and retention have fallen 29%, to under 15%.1

Flat budget. A large new line item eating the rest. And everyone spending more to find strangers than to keep the people they already have.

In 2027 a lot of brands are going to discover they bought attention and have nothing to hold it with.

Meanwhile the cohort with the most money is being spoken to like their mothers. Gen X leads global consumer spending through 2033 — through 2036 in high-income markets.2 Fewer than 5% of U.S. marketing strategies target women over 50, who outspend every other group by 44%.2

That is not a representation gap. That is a revenue line nobody is calling.

What Realignment Looks Like

I realign brands with the customers who actually have the money.

Find the miss. Where revenue actually comes from, against who is in the creative and the media plan. There is almost always a gap. It is almost always expensive.

Rebuild the position. Portfolio architecture, messaging frameworks, and the sentence you say when someone asks what you are for. I have built this for a lead brand and eight sub-brands in a category that was a sea of sameness.

Make it defensible. A brief your CMO can take to finance without flinching. Strategy that survives a budget meeting is the only kind worth paying for.

Proof

McDonald's — prevalent, but irrelevant. Told a new CMO the brand was everywhere and mattered nowhere. Built the first cultural roadmap McDonald's ever used. Fifteen-plus campaigns came out of it, including the Rick & Morty collaboration. IWD Gold Lion.

Southwest Airlines — Bags Fly Free. Wall Street wanted them to charge. Led a twelve-person team through strategy and execution to defend the position instead. 9% brand awareness lift, 1% share shift, $900M incremental revenue. Gold Effie.

UnitedHealthcare — a sea of sameness. Positioning architecture for the lead brand and eight sub-brands, with messaging built for Medicaid members and regional operators rather than for the boardroom. 12%+ enrollment growth, NPS and CSAT gains. Silver Effie.

Walmart — back to school. Research found Walmart was a point of contention between mothers and their kids. Redesigned the omnichannel journey across product, store, and media. 20% YoY revenue growth, three consecutive years.

The 2027 plan is being written right now. If the brief on your desk doesn't mention her, we should talk.
